What is Fume Hood?

In the lab, harmful chemicals, dust particles, chemical vapours, mist, gas, or aerosols can harm inhalation of people working around or contaminate the laboratory environment. A fume hood is an exhaust system manufactured to remove fumes from the laboratory work area.

Laboratory Fume hoods are like large boxes with moveable ‘doors’. Experiments & processes are conducted within it and vapours are ‘exhausted’ through ductwork, usually equipped with a blower. Harmful contaminants are filtered or diluted until they are no longer dangerous.
